The Bourne Supremacy
Review by Clint Morris
Here's
a tip for Jason Bourne: Buy some peroxide, soak your hair
blonde, grow a moustache, eat some fast food, put on weight,
and move to Afghanistan. No one will ever find you there.
But that's no fun for cinemagoers is it?
And if there's one thing you can say about these Bourne
movies, it's that they're undeniably fun.
Based on the book by Robert Ludlum, The Bourne Identity
starred Matt Damon as a man with amnesia who slowly puts
together the pieces of his life, revealing his true identity
as a killer for hire.
The sequel, The Bourne Supremacy, is as far away from
'more of the same' terrain as possible. With elucidation taken
care of via the first film, it's time for the real games to
begin. Insert your dollar
Jason and now-girlfriend, Marie (Franka Potente), the women
who was roped into helping him flee the authorities in the
first film; have been hiding out in India. The biggest problem
they've got is Jason's constant nightmares: he still doesn't
know who he really is, only that he's done some bad stuff.
When a hired gun comes-a-calling, the two take flight.
It seems the Russian mob are framing Bourne for a murder-spree
he didn't commit, causing him to put his running shoes back
on, and forcing the C.I.A to start sniffing his trail again.
From Europe, Asia, Naples and Berlin, 'the perfect weapon'
darts about chasing clues and staying one step ahead of both
the agency and the culprits who've put him in such an uncompromising
position.
In short, The Bourne Supremacy is probably the most
fun you'll have at the movies this year.
From Damon's superb performance to the eye-popping action
sequences - look out for one of the best car chases a film
has featured in years - and applaudable script, it all combines
to work a treat.
Best of all, director Paul Greengrass (Bloody Sunday)
proves an excellent addition, creating a heightened sense
of urgency in proceedings, leaving viewers on the edge of
their seat and by credits end, begging for more.
