In this job, it's not uncommon to come across movies - and trailers
- that both jump out at you as "popcorn" classic and a completely
forgettable waste of time that won't make a dime.
Armored
is one of those films. It's the type of flick, which upon release, will
either exceed everyone's expectations by taking upwards of $80M - or it
will open to about $14M and slowly shrink away before it makes it's
$50M budget back.
The thing is, there is something about the crime caper that seems quite old hat. Oceans 11
did it - and pretty much did it as well as anyone else could ever hope
to. So why bother recapture that with a genre that is clearly needing a
good 5 - 10 year break?
Either way, it's an interesting cast (by
interesting, I mean "full of good actors who are realistically hanging
by a thread as they haven't had a hit in years) which includes Columbus
Short, Matt Dillon, Laurence Fishburne, Jean Reno and Skeet Ulrich.
So needless to say, they got a great ensemble for a bargain price.
The flick follows a newbie guard who works for an armored truck company that is coerced by his veteran
coworkers to steal a truck containing $42 million. But a wrinkle in
their supposedly foolproof plan divides the group, leading to a
potentially deadly resolution.
Could be good, but most likely, will be one you still think twice about renting on DVD.
