Sneak Peak at "Bran Nue Dae"
with
Sean Lynch
After the disaster that was the big budget mess that was Baz Lurhman's Australia,
you could quite easily forgive the Australian public for losing faith
in their own film industry forever. However, all is not lost - with Bran Nue Dae set to reinvent the publics perception of what we, as a film-making country, are actually capable of.
Based on the hit musical, Bran Nue Dae takes off in
the Summer of 1969 where a young man is filled with the life of the
idyllic old pearling port Broome - fishing, hanging out with his mates
and his girl.
However his mother returns him to the religious
mission for further schooling. After being punished for an act of
youthful rebellion, he runs away from the mission on a journey that
ultimately leads him back home.
An astonishingly cast including
Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush as well as Magda Szubanski, Ernie Dingo, Tom
Budge, Deborah Mailman, Missy Higgins and Australian Idol's Jessica Mauboy, is on board for this one.
Team that with some of the most beautifully lush cinematography you are ever likely to see... and Bran Nue Dae could, quite possibly, be the modern-day Australian classic we have all been waiting for.
Bran Nue Dae premieres on the Closing Night of the Melbourne Film Festival, 8th August 2009.
