Bill Murray is one of the most interesting movie stars of our generation.
Essentially the "Vince Vaughn" of the 1980s, Murray has somehow transformed himself into the most eclectic, eccentric actors I've ever seen. He can swing from depression to cartoonish in a heartbeat and it's for this very reason his mere presence in any film makes it worth checking out.
His latest is exactly what you could hope for. Set in an ultra stylised Los Angeles, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III is a silly and often playful comedy covering lost love, friendship, revenge and their associated fantasies, and - of course - Brandy Alexanders.
Brought to the screen by indie darling Roman Coppola, Charles (Charlie Sheen - yeah, THAT Charlie Sheen) is a graphic designer whose fame, money & relentless charm provide him with what seems to be a perfect life.
However, when his love suddenly breaks up with him, Charles' life falls apart from which he spins into a downward spiral of doubt, confusion and reflection.
With the support of his loyal mates - Kirby (Indie flick regular, Jason Schwartzman), Saul (Bill Murray - Yay!), and his sister, Izzy (Patricia Arquette) Charles soon begins the hard road of self evaluation to come to terms with a life without Ivana.
Ultimately A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III asks one major question: Is it possible to love and hate someone at the same time?
