The phrase "My childhood has been raped" has been thrown around
quite a bit these days. And it doesn't look like slowing down any time
soon, with more remakes and belated sequels looking to head our way in
their droves over the next two to three years.
It's crazy -
because there are very few films left that are in dire need of a
"remake" or "revamp". The only thing that really needs the "revamp" is
the trashy wives of the studio execs who are looking for their latest
lip injection to be paid.
It's kind of crazy.
I remember the first time I ever experienced a Friday The 13th
was probably around the time of Grade 4. My older brother was watching
it upstairs with the door closed, I snuck the door open slightly just
so I could peer in enough without being caught (and having my brother
yell and scream and getting me in trouble).
The images were so shocking, some of those sequences from Friday The 13th - Part V
(that was the one where it wasn't even Jason doing the killing!!) stick
with me to this very day (and ensures that I never enter a porta loo
ever again).
It was the home-movie, grainy image that created
such realistic fear - and you have to wonder if a glossy remake is
really going to do this franchise any justice at all. Sure, I was quite
the fan of Freddy vs Jason - but that was fun, not scary.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see how painful this "childhood rape" is going to be!

Will the latest "revamp" be able to freshen up the Friday The 13th franchise?
