Hollywood hasn't had this sort of love for the early 1900's since the 1970's, but for reasons we have yet to understand, there are a slew of prohibition era actioners heading to our cinemas in the very near future.
The good news, all of them look amazing and are full to the brim with some top class talent. Lawless is no different.
Lawless is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers : bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia.
In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant's family in his novel "The Wettest County in the World", the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation's most notorious crime wave.
The most interesting and exciting thing about Lawless isn't its wonderful cast which includes Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman and Mia Wasikowska - but moreso for the behind the scenes crew. Directed by John Hillcoat, the gripping story comes from the mind of Aussie music legend Nick Cave and Matt Bondurant (the brains behind the wonderful The Proposition).
Expect this to battle it to the death with Gangster Squad to see what becomes the official "hit" and which becomes a "cult classic".
