White Chicks
Review by Clint Morris
Weve
seen the 'guys dress up as gals' flick more times than Kelly
Prestons renewed her membership to the mile-high club
and frankly, its as done as charcoal steak.
Thankfully then, theres a bit more to laugh at in the
Wayans brothers new "drag show" White Chicks.
Two FBI agents (Shawn and Marlon Wayans) try to get back
into their bosss good graces by taking on a job guarding
the Wilton sisters, two New York City hotel heiresses (hmmm
wonder
if thats a dig at any two girls in particular?), from
a serial kidnapper.
They fail, so its up at the boys to play dress-up and
convince the patrons of a weekend resort that theyre
the real deal.
The Wayans brothers skipped on doing a Scary Movie 3
which went to director David Zucker instead and did
this instead.
Whilst fiscally it probably wasnt the best idea
the Scary sequel raked in quite a pretty penny
it does give surety that the funny bone driven family
is more than a bunch of one-hit wonders that have a penchant
for playing with Halloween masks and prosthetic willies.
And while White Chicks is far from a great comedy,
thanks to its effervescent spirit and fresh and funky gags,
it does entertain.
The
films flaws lie within its dawdling script and its lack
of detail.
It not only offers nothing very engaging in its first act,
the script isnt as tight as it couldve been either.
In fact, considering six writers worked on the film its
a little weak in that area.
Once the girly garbs come on and the baritone takes a back-seat
though, the comedy kicks in. And there are some beaut moments
here.
Ex-Footballer Terry Crews is especially funny as a playboy
sports-man who develops a fixation on Marlons blonde
nom de plume.
Granted, its mostly fart gags youre laughing
it, but if youre still able to transport yourself to
that level of immaturity, youll find it a pleasant jaunt.
There are enough good gags in White Chicks to cover
up the films flaws and at times, theyre the ever
so-welcome big fat gut-busting laughs we all yearn for.
