If the strength of Australian music lies in
its diversity, then the domestic music community is in very strong
shape indeed.
In a wide open year where the big winners
could
come from left of field, the ARIA Awards voting academy has delivered
one of the most eclectic set of nominees to date.
Announced today in Sydney, this
year’s ARIA
Awards nominees includes artists as diverse as AUGIE MARCH, HILLTOP
HOODS, WOLFMOTHER, BOB EVANS, CLARE BOWDITCH, HUMAN NATURE, TROY
CASSAR-DALEY, THE GRATES, THE LIVING END, YOUTH GROUP and THE
VERONICAS. There are plenty of new faces making their ARIA Awards
nominations debut and an exciting collection of artists, both new and
established, who have received multiple nominations.
A number of artists have each received 5
ARIA
Award nominations. BERNARD FANNING, an artist who is already a multi
ARIA Award winner courtesy of Powderfinger, Hip-hop super heroes
HILLTOP HOODS, globetrotting trio WOLFMOTHER and ESKIMO JOE have all
stormed in with 5 nominations a piece.
The technical awards were also given out
today
with The ENGINEER OF THE YEAR for the 2nd year in a row going to MATT
LOVELL for his work on the ESKIMO JOE album Black Fingernails, Red
Wine. Production company HEAD PICTURES have taken out the ARIA Award
for BEST VIDEO for BERNARD FANNING’S whimsical Wish You Well
film
clip. And DEBASER has won the ARIA Award for BEST COVER ART for BERNARD
FANNING’S Tea And Sympathy.
