Despite one of the most disjointed televised
Aria Awards ceremonies in their history, there was still plenty to
celebrate at the 2010 Aria Awards.
After an extended lead-up to the 2010 ARIA
Awards (that has saw the presentation of sixteen ARIA "Genre" Awards,
four ARIA Artisan Awards and the induction of five music legends at a
ARIA Hall
of Fame event, the final winners of the 2010 ARIA Awards season have
been announced.
The final eleven ARIA Awards were presented in style at a dazzling
event at Australia’s most iconic venue - the Sydney Opera House.
ANGUS & JULIA STONE took out the ARIA Award in the category of
ALBUM OF THE YEAR. With thirteen lovingly crafted songs reflecting a
myriad of emotions, the album is Down The Way, which peaked at No. 1 on
the ARIA Album Chart and has been an unstoppable force.
ANGUS & JULIA STONE also won the ARIA Award in the category of
SINGLE OF THE YEAR for Big Jet Plane, BEST ADULT ALTERNATIVE ALBUM and
also won two ARIA Artisan Awards in September for PRODUCER OF THE YEAR
and BEST COVER ART.
Indie Singer / songwriter WASHINGTON proved that her star is on the
rise taking out her first two ARIA Awards in the categories of BEST
FEMALE ARTIST and BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST for her debut album, I
Believe You Liar.
If WASHINGTON was the Queen of the indie music scene last night, then
the King was DAN SULTAN who was named BEST MALE ARTIST on the back of
his electrifying album Get Out While You Can.He also took out BEST
BLUES AND ROOTS ALBUM.
However, the big winners of the night were pop outfit THE TEMPER TRAP
who took out their first ever ARIA Awards with BEST GROUP and the
inaugural Public Voted ARIA Awards presented by V Energy Drink. As
voted by the people, THE TEMPER TRAP has won in the category of MOST
POPULAR AUSTRALIAN SINGLE for their anthem Sweet Disposition.
Sia win her second ARIA Award for 2010 for BEST POP RELEASE and BEST
INDEPENDENT RELEASE for her brilliant album We Are Born.
