Wow, Wipeout! Hoodoo Gurus, Marcia Hines & Frank Ifield To Be
Inducted into ARIA Hall of Fame - well that seems to be the case if our
spies are correct...and they damn well usually are!
Last year,
the Divinyls strutted and pouted their way through a much-anticipated
reunion set. Daddy Cool did the Eagle Rock while at the other end of
the music spectrum Helen Reddy thrilled with a powerful acceptance
speech that didn’t leave a dry eye in the house. These iconic
performers joined Rose Tattoo, Icehouse, Lobby Loyde and Midnight Oil
(inducted at the 2006 ARIA Awards) as the 2006 ARIA Hall of Fame
inductees.
Now ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association)
is proud to announce the return of the 2007 ARIA Hall of Fame – an
event dedicated to paying tribute to iconic artists that have made a
significant impact and enduring contribution to our music landscape -
or a band who are in dire need of some promo for their latest "Greatest
Hits Album".
This very special event (a remarkably quiter event
than the actual ARIA Awards themselves), now in its 3rd year, will take
place on Wednesday, July 18th at the Plaza Ballroom at Melbourne’s
Regent Theatre. VH1 will be broadcasting the event, so - fear no
publicity hungry celebs, you may get a chance to get your mug on the TV
yet!
The first inductees to be announced for 2007 run the gamut
of the Aussie music industry – from garage rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm
& blues to yodelling and country music.
The HOODOO GURUS,
one of the most inventive, lyrically smart and exciting rock’ n ’roll
bands Australia has ever produced will line-up to be inducted into the
Hall in 2007, along with Australian Idol's Marcia Hines (let's face it,
"She's Lived-dit" as a "Pa-foim-ma") and the rather odd inclusion of
Singer/Songwriter and Yodeller Frank Ifield.
It is tipped that
the GURUS will perform at the main event - one which is shaping up to
be enormous - with the likes of Silverchair, John Butler, Thirsty Merc
to name a few. Stay tuned to Web Wombat for more up to date ARIAS 2007
news as it comes to hand!
