Armand Van Helden's, New York DJ and
remixer, latest release "You Don't Know Me" follows his predictable
habit with his mixes:
A distinctive single loop flowing through each mix, similar to his best
known remix of Tori Amos' Professional
Widow for which he received commercial success.
This is a real play-one, miss-one sort of album. There are some cool
tracks and then there are the tracks that just miss the target
completley.
The brilliance of My My
My may have been the most successful single from this
album, a tune that will have listeners dancing away. Van Helden fans
will well know this track already - and for those who don't (first
up... why the hell are you buying a best of album?) it is simply one of
those sort of tracks you would happily listen to over and over again.
You
Don't Know Me, the opening and title track, is a great
start. It is a track that says "Welcome to the show!" and the show
really does start there.
NYC
Beat and Full
Moon (featuring Common) are the highlights of the album.
Mainstream listeners should recognise NYC Beat from the
crazy amount of radio airplay it recieved.
House and DJ fans will love this mix, with a great bass line it is a
impressive track. Full
Moon showcased by Common's vocals is also excellent - and
it's just a pity they have chosen to run these two tracks back to back.
Armand Van Helden is truly a house and remix legend and this album
brings his hits all together in one collection.
He has a unique sound that all dance and house fans will enjoy, making
this collection a must-have.
