The Basics - With This Ship
By Sean Lynch
With
This Ship heralds a
significant new direction for The Basics. While retaining the band's
trademark three-part harmonies, they are forging a bold path towards an
altogether unexplored musical landscape.
Armed with an epic video clip (think Tim Burton does Yellow Submarine
via a Monty Python haze), With
This Ship continues the current Aussie trend of
outstanding and unique animated videos.
Mixed by Peter Cobbin (Franz
Ferdinand, The
Beatles’
Anthology) at the famed Abbey Road studios in London and features
production contributions from prominent New York-based engineer Michael
Brauer (Coldplay,
My
Morning Jacket, Bob Dylan, John Mayer), and local wizard
Francois Tetaz (Architecture In Helsinki, Lior, Gotye) The
Basics are certainly keeping good company.
This
is the sound of a band really coming into their own, casting off the
shackles of restrictive genres and their youth, and in doing
so,
finding their own voice.
With it's epic Coldplay-meets-Snow
Patrol chorus, The Basics have truly hit the nail on the head with a
track that every "first single of the new album" should aspire to.
A truly triumphant return.
With
This Ship is released independently and is distributed
through MGM - get it off the iTunes, well worth it if you ask this sea
faring fellow!
