So there is this guy right, his name is Heazlewood.
Justin Heazlewood.
I think I am in love with him and his ridiculous songs and blogs and endearing ramblings.
I am not certain about it; but I am pretty sure.
He also goes by: The Bedroom Philosopher.
If you will rewind your mind back to about two years ago, you might just recall the song I'm So Postmodern. It became the theme song to my arts degree centered life.
You will recall that it is this guy that sings about how postmodern he is by prefixing a number of absurd activities with: "I’m So Postmodern, I...".
My personal favourite: “I'm so postmodern I wrote a trilogy of novels from the perspective of a possum that Jesus patted once.”
This is Justin Heazlewood; The Bedroom Philosopher.
Anyways,
luckily enough for me (and fans of slightly folksy, clever songs about
whatever madness is going on in this strange fellows' head) Justin
Heazlewood has returned.
If you are not familiar with his
previous offerings, most notably "In Bed With My Doona" you will be in
for good time if you crack out "Brown and Orange".
I can assure you that the Bedroom Philosopher isn't for everyone.
Even
the people that it is for may only feel that one spin on the CD machine
is necessary to get the gist. It is probably best described as snippets
of 'weird' put to music.
If you are one of the people that it is
for (like myself) you should rush out and buy it so you can file it
between your strangely large collection of They Might Be Giants albums
and that single Jewel released for Pieces of You where she sings about snot and rocker boys.
I
can't help but assume that the humour inherent in "Brown and Orange"
belies a sense of self consciousness and deranged loneliness.
This is most evident on I’m So Lonely – strangely enough, however, the melancholy pervades the album.
The
melancholia is why I am choosing not to class this album as simply
'quirky' – which I am pretty certain, is what every traditional
reviewing outlet will do.
Anyways, my pick of the album is Party In My Head.
Have a listen.
