"I Am... Sasha Fierce" is Beyonce Knowles'
third solo album, featuring two discs which are clearly intended to
illustrate her dramatically different singing personas.
Considering she is one of the biggest international names in pop and
R&B today, fans and general music lovers alike are going to
have nothing less than high expectations.
Disc One, or the "Beyonce" half features a series of delicate
ballads, including hit songs such as If I Were A Boy and
Disappear.
Her music here is classic R&B, involving slow acoustics and
easy tranquil beats accompanied by powerful vocals (of which have gone
onto make Beyonce a star).
In that regard, the first half of this album is very mellow, expressing
the slower and harmonious side of Beyonce.
The second disc or the "Sasha Fierce" half promotes a funkier side of
Beyonce; a side which she is becoming more and more notorious
for.
With a touch of infectious fast paced electric beats, the "Sasha
Fierce" disc is definately the one which will get more radio airplay.
Having said that, opening track Single
Ladies quite stale and repetitive, and by the end of the
song you can barely get a handle hearing the words "If you liked it you
shoulda put a ring on it" again!
Thankfully the track that follow have a great thumping dance beat.
Radio
and Video Phone
are songs that will get you singing and dancing along to the stereo,
the sort of songs you just know that will expose you for the geeky
white boy that you are.
The overall concept is quite cool, one of contrasting the two major
sides of Beyonce - and it really publicises her musical talents and
versatility.
Unfortunately because it is an eleven track album stretched over two
discs, each seems to end rather abruptly. Let's face it, five tracks on
one CD just isn't enough.
Fans of R&B won't be disappointed with her music; but may I
suggest uploading the album on your iPods, thus avoiding the continuous
annoying need for CD change overs.
