With Christmas right around the corner, it's only a matter of time before every possible sound in your head is replaced exclusively with Christmas jingles. Whether they be tried and true classic from Bing Crosby, revamped rippers from Mariah Carey or even the dodgy cover versions from low selling label artists packed together on a crappy compilation CD in the hopes of someone remembering their name past the stroke of midnight. There is no escaping it.
Thankfully, everyones favourite scallywags - Blink 182 - have decided to put their own clever spin on the holiday break for the first time in quite a few years. No, not with a Christmas song, but with a song that celbrates an oft forgotten gem of a day : Boxing Day!
It's a surprisingly low key, yet refreshing, return to form for the pop punk band making their long awaited comeback via the EP "Dogs Eating Dogs" (itself a much needed reboot after the disapointing "Neighborhoods").
The EP is set for release on December 18 and revelas what is being touted as a "folksier side of the band", and is a classic immature break up song in the same vein as "Adam's Song" pushing harder for emotional melodies via acoustic guitars and a less hypo Travis Barker.
The band have been quite open about distancing themselves from the last album stating recently that "Dogs Eating Dogs will be nothing like Neighborhoods" however, they were quick to point out that the EP isn't "just a return to the band's early releases". So... that means what?
"The band is back together, working together in a way that they hadn't been, even for years before the hiatus" says lead singer Tom DeLonge. "We're connected and laughing and making jokes and making fun of each other, and really having strong debates whether or not we should have a whole chorus about penises" he says.
Which is EXCELLENT news for fans of classic Blink!
Don't believe us? Then why not listen out to some of their other classic Christmas ditties. We should warn you, they do involve childish themes and quite a few words which your parents will be angry at you for hearing.
So, to make up for that, we've also got a couple of clean Christmas classics too - just to keep you a centred member of society!
