Coldplay - Princess of China
Coldplay is back with yet another single off an
album, which sadly, hasn't reached the lofty heights of the band's
previous efforts. Don't be mistaken, there are some pure pop gems on
offer here - by by and large, it's the most hit and miss album since
the overblown X & Y.
"Princess of China" is the latest single with guest vocals by Rihanna.
It is the tenth track from Coldplay's album Mylo Xyloto and was
co-written by the band and the legendary Brian Eno.
It's claimed that Chris Martin drew influences for the song from
electro rock, electropop and R&B and seems like the perfect
genre mish mash to release as the fourth single.
The song was initially met with a mixed response
from music critics, with some praising the collaboration between Martin
and Rihanna, and others calling it downright uninspiring. So it seems
somewhat strange that it would be given an official single release,
which obviously has something to do with Princess of China performing
well on international charts around the world charting a twenty on both
the US Hot 100 billboard and UK charts.
Now everyone has their own tastes, but for mine, nothing will ever
surpass the legendary status of Coldplay's first major single from
Parachutes. It hints at all the epic-ness which would later become
their trademark, but also involves some truly unique and sincere vocals
and heart.
It's our favourite, it should be yours too.
