There's very little you can say about this 'album', the second LP from British band Dirty Pretty Things.

The band itself is the attempt of former Libertines member Carl Barat at extending his career in music, but this attempt appears to be on it's last legs.

The collection of boring, tired pop-rock is called "Romance at Short Notice", and this meaningless, empty title reflects the meaningless, empty music contained therein.

The first album had one or two good songs – Deadwood and Bang Bang You're Dead come to mind – but was incredibly inconsistent.

On "Romance at Short Notice", the mediocrity of the filler songs from the first album spills out into 12 tracks of unrestrained "Meh".

There is nothing interesting, nothing catchy, nothing new and nothing to listen to. If I were you I'd stop reading this review right now; there's nothing to see here.

So you're still here? Can I ask why? Maybe I'd better not push it.

The lyrics are nonsensical, trite and shallow. They seek only to rhyme and to sound moderately sensical - there is no deeper meaning and no talent apparent in their construction. They're either painfully obvious and direct or superficial wordplay that simply makes you groan.

It's either 'sunny days are pretty' or.. well... you get the point.

They're entirely uninteresting. The same goes for the instrumentation and musicianship.

It's just so beige.

There is nothing distinctive, interesting, or groundbreaking here. It's not even retro-cool.

It's contemporary-boring.

ALBUM RATING: 1 out of 5
