It's
summer time, which can only mean one thing - Festivals! Yep, there's
not a day off over these next few months between Summerdaze, Big Day
Out, Kiss My Grass, Golden Plains and of course the upcoming Good Vibrations. It's
also tough to choose which you're going to head off to. Let's face it,
these things aren't always cheap - so choices need to be made. Luckily,
if you don't happen to make it to any of the festival, the folks at the
record companies are generally kind enough to release a compilation cd
to remind you just exactly what you missed out on and make you foolish
for not making the right choices! The Good Vibrations line up is
pretty impressive this year. Due in part to the headlining of
everyone's favourite white boy DJ's The Beastie Boys. You'd be hard
pressed to find anyone who doesn't dig the sounds of those guys - who
hasn't been absolutely plastered at a party and gone mental when the
chorus "YOU GOTTA FIGHT, FOR YOUR RIGHT, TO PAAARTY"? No one, that's
who! Obviously compilations can never really capture the essence
of the day (there's always less nudity, drugs and sweating when
listening to a cd...most of the time), but there are certainly some
good tracks featured on this years Good Vibrations compilation. There's
appearances from the latest house love children Sneaky Sound System
(who recently took the crowd by the balls while supporting Robbie Williams on his latest Australian Tour) and their killer track I Love It, while DJ Yoda's Wheels could be the surprise hit of the festival, with Thunderball suppling some sweet chillout tunes. The
second disc, mixed by Will Styles, contains a few more energetic dance
tunes that will no doubt work a treat later into the night. Ursula 1000
have one of the quirkiest and coolest tracks here with Electrik Boogie, Cassius supply the more commercial sounds, Nick Thayer supplies some heavy beats with Shake Up, while the mix up of Gotye's Learnalilgivinalovin' is outstanding and will easily get numerous spins in the car CD player. It's
the sound of summer and is certain to get you pumped for the upcoming
festival season. Hopefully, you all make the right choices and don't
end up regretting your 2007 festival season!
