New Single & Video : Somebody That
I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra)
It's one of the most anticipated albums of the last five years - the return of Australia's own Gotye.
His
new album Making Mirrors is set to hit shelves on August 19. The new
albums artwork is a piece painted by Wally DeBacker's dad in another
space and time (the 1980s). It was salvaged from a box of old slap
bracelets, Swatch watches, jean jackets and other space junk.
Some
of you may not know what a record is. Those may prefer to think of it
simply as a physical vessel of varying sizes and materials, from which
an auditory experience can be emitted (when prompted, and when
interfaced with the correct transcoding technology). Like Tickle Me Elmo
Said vessel will have 12 "tracks" on it. Each will be individually named and of varying durations and dynamic response
1. Making Mirrors 2. Easy Way Out 3. Somebody That I Used To Know 4. Eyes Wide Open 5. Smoke and Mirrors 6. I Feel Better 7. In Your Light 8. State of the Art 9. Don't Worry, We'll Be Watching You 10. Giving Me A Chance 11. Save Me 12. Bronte
Keep
your eyes and ears peeled in the meantime, for Somebody That I Used To
Know, the next single to make it through the asteroid belt. It’s out
July 11 and features vocals from the amazing Kimbra.
For more on it, let's here from Gotye himself in a recent "letter to the nation" :
So
I had my first ever leak yesterday
Yes, yes, very fu... Disgusting! Get your mind out of the gutter.
Uh... so - the film clip for Somebody That I Used To Know, my new
single, leaked onto the web yesterday and hence I'd like to share it
with you!
Kimbra
is the amazing vocalist you're seeing and hearing in the third verse-
floors me every time. Can't wait for her new album Vows to be released
Hope you enjoy the video. It was the most lengthy and intense shoot
I've ever been part of- two days of shooting, the second day stretching
out to 36 hours! Anyone who's ever done full body painting and
stop-time animation will know the way time can crawl, especially when
you're trying to stand dead-still for hours. Good thing it's an amazing
clip!
And for that I have the following lovely people to thank:
Natasha Pincus and Warwick Field who conceived, directed, filmed and
edited the piece. Check out their other awesome work here.
Emma Hack who
did the brilliant body painting for the video. See more of her
beguiling body painting here.
And thanks to my dad, whose original artwork is what the painting was
based on. Thanks paps!

The digital single is out now on iTunes in Australia, and directly
from
the gotye.com
store for the rest of the universe.
Yes,
Wally
P.S. In case you missed it, here’s an album preview I put together with
my friend James Bryans. These film clips, documentaries and more will
be out digitally and on DVD alongside the record
