We like to
unveil some lesser known bands and artist on The
Music Channel from time to time - however, never have we been so
excited to do so than now. Betchadupa,
a four piece outfit from New Zealand, met the Aussie shores
with
subdued fanfare in the early parts of 2003-2004 with their second album
"Aiming For Your Head". However, in this humble reporters opinion, it
stands as one of the best records to come out this decade (and one of
the best live acts you are ever likely to have the privilege of seeing. However,
due to the lacklustre success of the album, Betchadupa left for
the salty shores of the UK, leaving a massive hole in the Melbourne
live scene. Now, almost two years later, lead singer
Liam Finn (son of Crowded
House' Neil Finn) is returning to our fair land as a solo
artist, with a new album and new songs. Second Chance
is the first single from the forthcoming album, and is an absolute gem.
It's sweet, it's catchy and it's damn good. Judging by the several
other tunes currently on Liam's
MySpace, the new solo album sounds like
it will be an entire LP of the quieter Betchadupa moments.
Essentially, 45 minutes of My
Army of Birds And Gulls. Which is a great thing! He
will be in Oz briefly to play some promotional live show (which The
Music Channel will be front row centre to cover), so be sure to
experience Liam Finn live while you have the chance. Until then, feast
on the video clip for Second
Chance, which like the songs, is simple yet magnificent. ...and
for those interested - grab the Betchadupa
album - it'll be one of the most satisfying albums you'll ever buy.
