Well, that's it, it's over - with just a click of the fingers (and perhaps a sneaky poke by management) Melbourne music darling Little Red have decided to call it a day on a fairly young career.
While most mainstream readers may have only really come across Little Red in the last couple of years as their likeable pop slowly infiltrated Music Festivals, TV Commericials, Drama Montages and Sporting Events - Melbourne's music industry has seen the team grow for six odd years from a suited up 50s inspired novelty act to bonafied stadium players.
In a statement made on their website the group sent out a heartfelt message...
"It’s been 6 really great years of performing live across Australia and around the world, but it’s time for Little Red to say farewell, as the original members have parted ways... After much thought and deliberation we are all in need of a new project" says the statement.
It goes on to say "Highlights of our time as a band were many and often; we’ve released two albums that we're proud of in various countries, toured all around Australia, to Papua New Guinea, USA, Japan, Europe, performing at festivals including Meredith, Laneway, SXSW and many more. We’re so happy to have come this far – we’ve been given so many great opportunities and thank everyone who has helped us along the way", before finishing with an eternally greatful "Thank you to our fans – your ongoing support has been incredible."
However, it's not all bad news, with the various band members already picking up the pieces and forming new bands, or continuing on with one of Little Red's seemingly infinate side projects.
Reports suggest Dom and Adrian are gaining steam with their band New Gods, and are already in the process of recording an EP and have also just been announced as support for The Rubens' September/October National tour.
Cool as hell Quang has also formed a new band called Naked Bodies who are in the process of mixing a double a-side. Tom has also taken on a new band, leading Major Tom and the Atoms on a journey towards to a new EP which has just been released.
Meanwhile, everyone's favoueite headbopper (and easily one of Little Red's most memeorable traits) Taka is continuing on with The Hondas who have just finished recording a full-length album and will release their first single this month.
It's sad to see them go, the last of the boom of the mid-2000s. Had they released a third album, they have very well become a next level band in the vein of Eskimo Joe - true to their Melbourne muso roots, they got out before everyone stopped respecting them... ala Eskimo Joe.
