Music News: Live Earth
NEW UPDATE: Tuesday 8th May, 2007
Let's hope this gig is carbon neutral - because it's going to be enormous!
Tickets
for the Sydney leg of the 7/7/07 Concert to Combat Global Warming go on
sale Friday, May 18, 2007 and Includes Public Transport (yep - saving
the planet one train ticket at a time)!
Organisers today
announced details of the Australian curtain-raising show for the
7-continent, 24-hour Live Earth concerts to be held on 7/7/07. The
Australian concert will be staged at Aussie Stadium in Sydney.
Speaking
via a video link-up at the event’s official launch at Aussie Stadium
today, Live Earth Partner Al Gore said: “The climate crisis is a global
problem that requires a global response. That’s exactly what Live Earth
is. On 7/7/07, Live Earth will touch over 2 billion people with 24
hours of live music across 7 continents and an urgent, hopeful message
to trigger a worldwide movement to combat the climate crisis. This
movement begins here at Aussie Stadium.”
Live on stage at the Sydney show will be:
CROWDED HOUSE JACK JOHNSON WOLFMOTHER JOHN BUTLER TRIO MISSY HIGGINS ESKIMO JOE SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM PAUL KELLY GHOSTWRITERS TONI COLLETTE & THE FINISH BLUE KING BROWN
“We’ve
all been involved in putting on some big gigs over the years, but
nothing rivals the scale of this one,” said Michael Chugg. “We’re
thrilled to be opening the show for the world and rapt about showcasing
some of Australia’s finest talent to the rest of the planet. We’d also
like to thank those artists who are so generously giving their time to
help spearhead one of the world’s greatest challenges of the 21st
century”. The big news is of course the headlining of Aussie
legends Crowded House (who, after the death of Paul Hester, vowed never
to reform....interesting...). In fact, this will be the bands first
official gig since the monstrous open air Goodbye show in 1996. “The
key message of Live Earth is that everyone can – and must – be a part
of the solution,” said Molitor. “Everyone can take simple measures that
will greatly assist the global effort to reduce carbon emissions. Live
Earth is driving global awareness about the solutions and engaging
people around the world to undertake personal actions both at home and
at work.” TICKETS ON SALE 9.00am (EST), FRIDAY, MAY 18, 2007 Outlet: Ticketek - www.ticketek.com / Ph: 132 849 Ticket price: $99.00 (GST + booking fee inclusive) - Max 4 tickets per transaction Ticket price includes bus, train and ferry transport on the day of the Concert. FOXTEL has secured the exclusive Australian television rights to the 24-hour global concert series LIVE EARTH. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since
the April 10 announcement of the Live Earth Concerts in the UK and
US, there has been much speculation as to exactly who will be
performing on the Australian leg of this global event. The interest
from Australian artists in being involved in the event has been
overwhelming. A press conference will be held on
Tuesday, 8 May, 2007, commencing at 10.30am at Aussie Stadium, Moore
Park, to announce the final line up for the concert as well as other
ancillary information about the concert which will be held on
Saturday, 7 July, 2007, at Aussie Stadium. I'm not sure whether
Bob Geldoff is getting a tad annoyed with people pinching his idea -
because the novelty and impact of these amazing events tends to wear
off if there is one helf every week. But for the punters, as long as
the big names keep coming out - who are we to complain? Words around the traps have Aussie "Band of the Moment", Silverchair,
making an appearance. While others have hinted that the much rumoured
PowderChair company (created by the members of Silverchair and
Powderfinger) could have some involvement in the project. |
