Big Day Out 2010 |
With the pain of sunburn withering away (and sunburned skin starting to peel... eeeew!) it must mean that Big Day Out season is over for yet another year - and what a cracker 2010 turned out to be!
Under
a clear blue sky, more than 50,000 music lovers flocked to Flemington
Racecourse to celebrate an annual Australia Day tradition: catching
spine tingling, sweat enduced sets by some of the best musicians in the
world at the Melbourne Big Day Out. A chilled-out,
shorts wearing, beer swilling crowd enjoying balmy summer conditions of
the fifth stop of the seven leg trek across New Zealand and Australia
for BDO 2010 – which saw more than 70 artists from Australia and abroad take to BDO stages. And quite a few jumping off them too... Drawing huge crowds,
Australian artists gave it their all at BDO. From the early morning set of Karnivool (which completley blew a surprisingly huge audience away), to the Temper Trap's
set causing mass hysteria (folks were clambering to get a look, some
even perched high up in trees when the hill area became too full), to
the soothing sounds of Dan Sultan and Midnight Juggernauts, with the day closing out on the Orange Stage
with Brisbane’s mighty Powderfinger. There really was something for everybody. There were plenty of international highlights on offer too, including: The Decemberists and Kasabian leading the charge,
as did a politically charge set from Lilley Allen (who is officially the "female Robbie Williams"), while Calvin Harris, Girl Talk and Groove Armada kept things ticking over in the Boiler Room. However, the big moment of the day came from one of the world's biggest bands! Headlining the Blue Stage, British trio Muse
who wowed fans with a visual feast, culminating in
an encore of AC / DC's "Back In Black" with Jet's Nic Cester on
vocals. Paul
Holman, Ambulance Victoria Operations Manager said, "The audience has
been very well behaved and the number of people treated is down on
previous years. We’re very happy with how the day has gone". From Melbourne, the Big Day Out now travels to Adelaide, with the next stop taking place on Friday 29th January, before it wraps up in Perth. More images and videos at www.bigdayout.com.
