Oasis At Knebworth - 15 Years Ago Today
While the era of Oasis is over - both Beady Eye
and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds are in full swing with their new
projects - let's not forget what made them such a historic band. Amidst
all the arrogance, "the kids of today" often forget just how huge Oasis
was.
15 years ago today, on the weekend of 10th and 11th August 1996, Oasis
played their first of two sell-out dates at Knebworth.
The two gigs broke box office records when one in every 20 people in
the UK applied for tickets. They have since gone into the history books
as era-defining concerts.
The gigs came during Oasis' world tour for '(What's The Story) Morning
Glory?' which has sold a staggering 14 million copies worldwide, 4.2 of
which are in the UK alone. In 2010 it won the Brit Award for The Best
Album Of The Past 30 Years.
Whilst the gigs have never been officially released the Knebworth
bootlegs have become legendary amongst fans, many of which can be found
on YouTube.
An official clip of 'Champagne Supernova' featuring John Squire on
guitar was released with the limited edition version of 'Stop The
Clocks' and can be seen below.
