It's been a long time between drinks for Aussie mood rockers Something For Kate. After peaking during the Aussie music boom of the early 2000s witht stellar album "Echolalia" and the equally impressive "The Official Fiction" just a few years later, the band went into something of a downward sprial.
The failure of any major commercial singles for 2006s "Desert Lights" didn't help, and wasn't helped with a weak realease of the "best of" compilation album, The Murmur Years: The Best Of Something For Kate 1996-2007. This led to a brief era of front man Paul Dempsey taking some solo time which only cemented him as one of Australia's finest talents.
However, the years flew by, and it wasn't until a full six-hear hiatus from the studio (many assumed the band had just broken up) that Something For Kate flew to Dallas, Texas to start recording as a band together under the sturdy guidance of producer John Congleton.
In a recent interview Paul Dempsey disclosed that the band was struggling with knowing when enough was enough. "We recognised an inclination among ourselves to procrastinate and keep layering stuff up... We knew that we needed to fight that instinct and he was very much the guy to help us." says Dempsey.
Now, after 6 years, Something For Kate are finally back with a new album. The question is, has the world moved on from SFK's moody rock? Has the landscape changed? It happened to Pete Murray, could it happen to the Katers?
Find out for yourself and check out the video for the new single, and while we're at it, let's have a listen to some of Something For Kate's finest moments from the last decade or so... the Golden Years!
