Sigur Rós - The Valtari Mystery Film Experiment
Music and art have long intertwined. Whether it be
Michel Gondry and his amazing film clips, or the insane ramblings of
Yoko Ono, or the even more insane ramblings of Bjork. They are two peas
in a pod.
Sure - a lot of music isn't art - and that's why we have Nickelback and
One Direction. But, every now and then, someone comes along and tried
to elevate the medium to a new level. Well 2012, we've found your man!
Sigur Rós has given a dozen film makers the same modest budget and
asked them to create whatever comes into their head when they listen to
songs from the band's new album valtari.
The idea is to bypass the usual artistic approval
process and allow
people utmost creative freedom. Among the filmmakers are Ramin Bahrani,
Alma Har'el and John Cameron Mitchell.
"We never meant our music
to come with a pre-programmed emotional response".
"We don't want to tell
anyone how to feel and what to take from it. With the films, we have
literally no idea what the directors are going to come back with. None
of them know what the others are doing, so hopefully it could be
interesting."
Check out the ones created so far, they are
confronting, confusing and interesting. For female fans, Transformers
star Shai LaBeouf gets his wang out.
We will keep you up to date as new films start to find their way onto
the internet!
