Peter, Bjorn and John - Young Folks

Review by Sean Lynch

Peter, Bjorn & JohnThis is the tune that you most likely have had stuck in your head for the last month or so. That tune that is so utterly irritatingly catchy you just can't shake it. The tune that is quickly becoming the biggest track in whistling since Bob Sinclair and his friggin' Love Generation!

All jokes aside, this really is a cool little ditty. Starting off with some surging funky drums, addictive maraca shaking (like there is any other type of maraca shaking!), crazy bongos and the subtle lo-fi base sound which ultimately sounds like a soothing jam session on the back veranda of your best mates house.

There has been alot of buzz surrounding their third album "Writer's Block", from which this single was forced into a commercial release almost three weeks after the album release due to popular demand, so it's good to see that this unlikely troupe are making their way up.

Those who were lucky enough to attend the Arctic Monkeys gig a few months back may recall the tune being whistled around the audience every now and then, even prompting the crowd to try and figure out "What the hell is that cool song we keep hearing?". Well, it's this - the best laid back tune of the summer.

RATING: 3.5 out of 5

SINGLE TO WATCH OUT FOR: The Sleepy Jackson grower Devil Was In My Yard which seems to be getting more attention everyday, admittedly the guy is a bit of a wank - but there are some supreme vocals going on in this track.

USELESS FACT: The only sound Seahorses make is a small clicking or popping sound during feeding or courtship...much like my ex-girlfriend.

Digital Primital - My Bush Would Make A Better President

Review by Ian Melly

Digital PrimitalIt seems anyone with a microphone, or at the very least a rolled up piece of paper, feels they are entitled to put their political opinions into the mix. Let's face it, we all know George Dubya isn't exactly going to win any spelling bees any time soon - but the sad fact is he is the President. What's worse is that those complaining either voted him in - or at the very least - forgot to vote all together!

So here's another politically fueled ditty, but unlike our good friend P!nk or Bono, at least the crew at Digital Primital have the ability to at least have a laugh about it with their latest single My Bush Would Make A Better President.

The song certainly isn't brain surgery, it's a dance/ R&B track that has headed rather quickly into novelty song territory (stack it in your shelves with Marvelous by The Twelfth Man and John So Is My Bro by The Music Men). The song does get slightly irritating rather quickly, but luckily the B-Sides contain a few cool and fun remixes that make you forget the original track itself.

It was never meant to be the next Imagine, but perhaps it's best that Digitial Primital's DJ crew stick to what they do best and get back to mixing some of the best live techno in the country.

RATING: 2 out of 5
