Skrillex - First Of The Year (Equinox)
Sonny John Moore, better known by his stage name
Skrillex, is
sweeping the world with his dubstep insanity. Moore joined the American
post-hardcore band From First to Last as the lead singer in 2004, and
recorded two studio albums with the band before leaving to pursue a
solo career in 2007.
However, it wasn't until he ceased
production of his first album that he began performing under the name
Skrillex. After releasing the My Name is Skrillex EP for free download
on his official MySpace page, he released the Scary Monsters and Nice
Sprites EP in late–2010 and More Monsters and Sprites EP in mid–2011.
Since
then he was nominated for a total of five Grammy Awards at the 54th
Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and won three; "Best
Dance/Electronica Album," "Best Dance Recording," and "Best Remixed
Recording, Non-Classical".
"First of the Year (Equinox)" is the
lead single from his third EP, More Monsters and Sprites and is
prominently a dubstep song that uses elements of electro house. The
exclamations throughout the song were taken from an infamous YouTube
video of a woman yelling at a crowd which she presumes to be illegal
photographers, shouting "Call 911 now!".
The video depicts an
older man following a young girl into an underground chamber. As he
approaches the girl he soaks a tissue with a liquid, but she suddenly
screams the lyrics "Call 911 now!", and uses supernatural powers to
attack him. It's pretty damn awesome!
Meanwhile here is a drummer from Melbourne,
Australia who has taken
the song to a whole new level. Here he is using cKahzan Cymbals and
Evans drum heads on top of my Ddrum Diablo.
It's incredibly amazing, and if for no other reason, one of the finest
examples as to why YouTube should exist!
