Snow Patrol took the stage greeted with screaming fans and
whistles from the crowd. They opened with If There's a Rocket Tie Me to
It which got everybody into the mood for the rest of the night. As
always with a seated gig, you wonder where the turning point will be
that will have everyone standing. Next came Chocolate that had
most all the heads bopping and feet tapping. With everyone still
seated, it became noticeable that many seemed itching to stand up, but
didn't want to be the "only ones". The next song was the better-known
Hands Open and, defying conventions, everyone was standing arms in the
air, dancing. Paul Wilson, the band's bassist, is worth noting;
very much a rock star, full of energy and enthusiasm, interacting with
the crowd the entire time, and his bright smile and contagious laugh
lit up the crowds' collective face. Next came How to be Dead
during which lead singer, Gary Lightbody, and Wilson knocked into each
other- BANG- Lightbody later joking that they were still "friends...and
lovers". Next came The Golden Floor . Hmm. With a melodic intro
on keys for You could be Happy, purple and aqua lighting filled the
stage, suited the sounds and mood perfectly. Lightbody took the stage
solo for Run, later joined by the rest of the band. Singing the words
"light up, light up", Lights were turned onto the crowd. This was
then followed by Make This Go on Forever (the crowd seemingly wishing
that their set would do the same) Lightbody then called on the audience
to join him for Shut your Eyes first introducing the crowd to the
lyrics then stopping to instruct the crowd to sing louder then louder,
Softer then softer. It wasn't long before everyone was joining in
standing and singing "shut your eyes and sing to meeee" Next to follow was the "Grey's Anatomy" song: everyone knew the words to this one and sang their hearts out. This was followed by Set the Fire to the Third Bar , Crack the Shutters, Take Back the City, and then the closer Open Your Eyes. Thanking
the crowd they left the stage, as could be expected they were met with
with cheers, whistles, and screams from the crowd, the audience
demanding an encore. Snow Patrol took the stage to play What If This
Storm Ends? to the grateful crowd, finally finishing with the emotive
You're all I Have.
