Steve Martin - Jubilation Day
It's
not unusual to see actors crossing over into the world of music, or
musicians crossing over into the world of acting. However, it's very
rare to see a comedian enter into the world of bluegrass music. Until
Steve Martin that is.
Never one to copy trends, Martin has once again put his stamp on the world by keeping things original.
The
banjo was a staple of Steve Martin's 1970s stand-up career. His comedy
albums regularly featured his fingerings of the instruments - but only
for comedic affect. It turns out he has a deeper love for the
instrument than we all know.
In 2001, he played banjo on Earl
Scruggs' "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" which went on to win the Best
Country Instrumental Performance the 2002 Grammys.

Inspired by this Martin released his first all-music album, The Crow:
New Songs for the 5-String Banjo, in 2009 which featured appearances
from Dolly Parton and went on to win the Grammy Award for Best
Bluegrass Album in 2010.
To follow this up we have a new album and a new single - "Jubilation Day" - with the Steep Canyon Rangers.
The clip contains plenty of the humour and quirk that Martin is known for - but also some world class banjo plucking.
