First it was Britany Spears pop, then it was Arvil Lavigne Pop Rock, then all of a sudden it became cool to wear short pants and top hats. Taste of Chaos is the now annual touring show of hardcore punk, emo, and metalcore bands that has done the rounds of Australia and the US twice now.

With a good number of Aussie bands on this worldwide release, it shows how much homegrown (and finally recognised) talent there is in the field of hardcore punk. Aussie boys including Wolfmother (ahem...just a little out of place), The Hot Lies, Carpathian, Horsell Common, Behind Crimson Eyes, Parkway Drive, and I Killed The Prom Queen, to name a few. Not to say that the US lineup (including As I Lay Dying, Bleeding Through, Anti-flag, Gwar and Unearth) doesn't pull their weight either.

The Aussie leg of the tour takes place in Mornington, Melbourne, where thousands of dedicated fans flock down to watch the plethera of international acts as well as show support for the varied locals who usually fill the gaps during the Oz the Australian tour of the show. With an ever growing fan base around Australia this touring show is fast becoming a threat to more prominent tours such as BDO (many will notice the like of Muse and Tool heading this years BDO lineup).

The first disc on this monster compilation, 39 tracks in all, opens up with Underoath and smoothly leads into Thursday, both well established hardcore and emo bands respectively. Each song that follows is a sure fire winner - for any fan of these often blurry genre boundaries.

Much like the BDO compilations, this CD serves as a great companion to the memories of the tour (and will most likley leave those that missed out even more depressed and angry with the world!). The countless screams and ball busting guitar riffs making it essential for those who like to rock out no matter what time - day or night.
