The Temper Trap

You guys are certainly making a huge impact at home and over in Europe, why the big decision to relocate to the UK?

Yes, it is all quite humbling actually. We have only been around since 2006 and not much really started happening for us until around August last year.

We have worked very hard on the CD, it has been a work in progress for some time now but we are truly grateful and humbled by the great reception that its receiving.

Science Of Fear and Sweet Disposition have been getting a lot of airplay, especially on Triple J...

It has been so weird coming back and finding that out, how much airplay we are getting, it is very exciting but humbling.

The move to the UK was quite an easy decision to make in the sense that we have had such support and have so much happening over there and in Europe at the moment that it made more sense for us to be there at this.

We have just finished doing a European tour and when I head back we are doing the Summer Festivals over in Europe after a couple of weeks break when we hope to get into the studio, jam a little and maybe lay some tracks before we head off touring again.

Getting back to the touring side of things, how different are the crowds over there as opposed to here?

Crowds over there tend to be more open to different styles of music, not saying that the crowds here don’t appreciate great styles of music...

It is just that we have such a varied music scene here and such gifted and talented musicians here that people over here are so spoilt with choice as to who go see play.

We all love playing live to whoever we play to, if you have been to one of our gigs you would see that.

We have also noticed that the crowds that we get over there are actually a bit older, in their 30s or so, which is great, we love seeing a varied crowd at our gigs.

It has been announced that you will be playing Glastonbury. How did the band react when you found out you are playing on the same stage as White Lies, Passion Pit and Gaslight Anthems!

We have known for a while, but yes, we were very excited and honoured to be playing such an incredible place. We fly in two days before we play from Norway, play and then we have to fly out the next day but will try and catch as many acts as we can while we can.

Any suggestions for anyone heading over there?

Well, Passion Pit... I would make a bee line for as I would for Florence and the Machine, Glasvegas, too many to mention!

You said that the new CD has been a hard slog and a long time coming, what was the inspiration for it?

It has been - but worth every minute of the hard slog!

I suppose so much has inspired this album, life experience, all of us have put so much of ourselves into it and we are just amazed how people are reacting to our music and that, honestly, is what we have aimed for.

We listened to many different artists while writing and recording "Conditions". Artists like Bruce [Bruce] Springsteen to [David] Bowie to everything in between.

Have you guys had any down time lately? Chilling, letting your hair down, having a few drinks?

We actually had a bit of a crazy night out when we were last in Hamburg! We discovered a shot called "The Mexicana", tastes like a kebab in a shot glass! I think that says it all!
