November,
Bloody November! That's right music fans - if you were one of the
almost 200,000 ticket holders to the much anticipated U2
Vertigo Tour, your wait is finally over.
Australia
collectively went into a giant tizzy when it was announced back in
March that U2 were canceling their much awaited March gigs due to
"Personal Reasons", believed to be due to the illness of lead
guitarist, The Edge's, daughter. But all is forgiven and forgotten,
with the band ready to rock and give Oz their first taste of their
Grammy Award winning music since the much maligned Pop-Mart
concerts held at the old Waverly Stadium over five years ago.
It's been a strange year in Pop/Rock music
for Aussie gig-goers, with two of the biggest concerts of the year
(that of U2 and Kylie's Greatest Hits Tour)
canceled at the last minute. Punters were left with mixed emotions
between feeling empathy for the performers personal plights as well as
their own "I Wannna Seee Them Nooooooow Daddy" issues. And who could
blame them, with tickets selling out within two hours of going on sale
(in the vacinty of 140,000 seats per state) many were forced to go to
music's arch enemy 'ebay' and spend almost triple
the original
asking price just to get a glimpse of Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullins Jnr
and the ever stone faced Adam Clayton.
Thankfully, Michael Coppel
and Ticketek released a statement earlier this week to the effect that
they "..are delighted to announce the world's biggest band, U2 are back
and will resume their postponed Australian tour in November this year
(2006)..." to put the country at ease. Add to that, Kanye West will be
the special guest for the dates in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide,
Melbourne and Auckland.
But are those tickets still valid?
"..All...current concert tickets are valid for the specific new
performance [listed below].." stated Coppell, "...You will simply need
to present your tickets at Telstra Dome (Melb concert), Telstra Stadium
(Sydney concert), etc on the night of the corresponding new concert
date."
For those still unsure, details are
below:
Ticket
holders in New Zealand and Australia should retain and use their
existing tickets for the rescheduled performances. Fans unable to make
the rescheduled performances may refund their tickets in accordance
with local ticket policies.
In both New Zealand and Australia,
fans requiring a refund may do so July 21st through 26th at point of
purchase, following which any returned tickets will be made available
to the public. Additional details forthcoming.
