Watsky : World's Fastest Rapper
George Watsky, a poet and rapper from San
Fransisco known for his speedy flow. He is the latest in a string of
YouTube sensations that has turned idle hands into golden coins.
We've seen it happen before - from Bo Burnham, to the "Fat Kid Who
Nearly Broke The Neck of a Bully", to that weird looking dude with the
growth disease who mimes to pop songs - there is money in being a
nobody, something George Watsky is quickly learning.
A poet and rapper from San Francisco, California Watsky has become
famous for performing what is known on "the streets" as slam poetry
(he's even featured on Season 6 of Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry
on HBO), like this recent one in which he guides viewers through the
features of the SH100.
That's right, the world’s fastest "How - To" Guide!
Watsky's talents began to receive national
and international acclaim in 2006 when he was the Youth Speaks Grand
Slam Poetry Champion, and was also named Brave New Voices International
Poetry Slam Champion. But it wasn't until Watsky graduated from Emerson
College that he achieved newfound fame with his viral YouTube video
"Pale kid raps fast."
The video was featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2011 and since
then has produced a fifteen track hip-hop album titled "Watsky". In
2010 he released the album Guilty Pleasures, which he made available as
a free download on his website.
Watsky is yet another example of how the new-age of the online world
has changed the music industry forever. No longer is talent based on
marketing, but people power. Hey - if it's good enough for Susan Boyle,
its good enough for Watsky.
