The 6th Sydney Comedy Festival
is just around the corner and it looks like it could be the biggest and
best yet, with stars from stage, screen and TV set to tread the board
of Australia's most famous town.
The 2010 season comes laden
with promises of more fun and laughter for more Sydneysiders than ever
before! New venues, new late night shows, new outdoor free events, a
new dedicated program especially for kids plus a star studded line up
of comedy’s international superstars and home grown champions! Sounds pretty sweet, doesn't it - puts that Melbourne Comedy Festival to shame! Running from 19 April to 9 May of 2010, tickets for The 6th Sydney Comedy Festival officially go on sale tomorrow for a star studded group of international stand up performers. Between
them, they have won awards at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the HBO
US Comedy Arts Festival, sold more tickets than any act ever at the
Edinburgh Fringe, sold out massive arenas, been a character on Seinfeld, a voice on Family Guy, hung out with Puff Daddy and won awards for their TV comedy documentaries.
It
is with great delight that the SCF announces the Festival debut of the
irrepressible Jason Byrne (IRE), the legendary Dom Irrera (US) and the
emerging star that is Shane Mauss (US).
Joining the debutantes
are some of the Festival’s favourite headliners including; Ross Noble
(UK), Pablo Francisco (USA), The Pajama Men (USA), Des Bishop (IRE) and
David O’Doherty (IRE).
“It is an exciting time for comedy in
this city with some of the truly great names of the world comedy
circuit setting up shop for three weeks" said Jorge Menidis, Sydney
Comedy Festival Director.
The whole thing will kick off in style
with the Gala Opening at Sydney Comedy Festival Cracker Night on 20
April 2010 and will also include The Festival’s Children’s program
which will play out during the day at a number of Festival venues and
will present performances, workshops, storytelling and much more in a
diverse program guaranteed to make kids and their parents laugh.
That's
not all - another new event is the inaugural Great Jugglers Jamboree, a
free event inviting jugglers of all shapes and sizes, skill and devices
to come together in workshops, performances and a winner take all
competition for the best juggler in the land!
Finally, the
Festival is set to unleash its new look and is in search of the perfect
name for their new mascot. Described as a bright, happy and at times
mischievous little character with a smile as wide as the Sydney Harbour
Bridge and hair as free flowing as the sails on the Sydney Opera
House. For the chance to name the new face of Sydney Comedy Festival and win a golden pass to the 2010 Festival visit www.sydneycomedyfest.com.au. LISTING INFORMATION Sydney Comedy Festival 2010
