Big Kahuna Reef
By Jay Williams

Grab your deep-sea diving gear and get ready for some serious action because this puzzle-fest takes place under the sea. It's a classic
picture-match style game, where your goal is to match three or more of
the same picture to extinguish boxes that a picture resides on. You have to race
against the clock to explode all squares turning them blue. Do this and you'll unlock more challenges along the way. To
help you on your way to completing each new puzzle is the handy fish
and crustation 'net catcher' that removes any square that is in your way.
You have to charge the net however, adding a touch of strategy. Each time you make a line of three or
more squares or icons, it fills your 'net catcher' meter, so be careful and use it wisely because
you might find yourself in a pickle when you really need it. Harder
stages have padlocked pictures that you need to make three or more
matches, two or three times until they can be exploded, increasing the challenge considerably. Now don't
think you are just clearing stages in vain, because you get a little
reward after each stage. Upon completion of levels, you are taken back to the
aquarium screen where you can change the background to whatever coral
combination you like. But thats not all: as you progress through the
game you can unlock better and brighter fish to fill the screen, creating your own virtual aquarium as you go. This reward was good, because when you're not playing the
game you can just take time out and just watch the different fish swim
around the screen and it can also double as a sweet screen saver. I
thought that Big Kahuna Reef was a great way to get your brain working
in different ways, with lots of different colours and icon combinations. Fish even swim in and around the
puzzle screen as you are playing, adding to the tranquility. The under water theme was
really cool and peaceful, but as far as gameplay it's on the same bar
as the likes of Bejeweled and Bejeweled 2. If you like those games, you'll have fun with this one. Game: Big Kahuna Reef
