FIFA 10

Soccer
fans rejoice. If
you thought, much like I did, that the folks at EA couldn’t improve
on FIFA 09, you were wrong.
FIFA
09 was a brilliant
soccer game. Clean, sharp game play with only a few minor annoyances.
The great thing about FIFA 10 is that the game play is very similar.
A few tweaks here and there and voila: near perfect soccer game play.
The
biggest tweak arriving
with this game is the 360-degree player control. In former FIFA
releases the players rotated on an 8-part axis. This new game play
feature simply makes the players movement much smoother.
The
only other noticeable
tweak with the game play is the realism. Former AI has been improved
so that free kicks, challenges, etc are more realistic. There is
practically nothing to fault on the actual game play.
In
saying this, playing
FIFA 09 and FIFA 10 is awfully similar. The everyday gamer would
think they are playing the same game and I’m sure they would query
the 100 bucks price tag. For the FIFA enthusiast however, the game has
evolved and developed from last year, the 360-degree player control
for one, is a huge improvement.
There
are only a few
“annoyances” associated with the game: Free kicks are
inconsistent and the start up menu is clogged and confusing. But hey,
I’m just being pedantic; these issues don’t really affect your
enjoyment of the game. Unless you give a dodgy penalty in a World Cup
Final. (That happens in real life anyway, just ask the Socceroos). As
I said, the realism is amazing.
A
new feature of this
years release is the Virtual Pro aspect. Building on the 09
installment of Be A Pro, whereby you can control the career of one
player in a team, Virtual Pro lets you create your own player. You
can upload photos of yourself and you can live your childhood dream
of hitting the turf at Old Trafford.
The Manager mode has also
been drastically improved to incorporate all aspects of running a
football club. With over 50 improvements, managing a team has never
been so realistic. Authentic transfers and believable player
development are two aspects that FIFA paid close attention to.
Football
experience
doesn’t get much better than this. With very little to fault it is
the near perfect football game. It will be amazing to see what EA
sports can improve in the 11 edition. With countless game options
ranging from online, to lounge and with a new list of trophies, EA
sports has kicked a Golden Goal with FIFA 10.
