Plants
Vs Zombies
By Reardon Jones
As a student of film and a lover of games I saw
the title for this game and got a little excited for Plants Vs
Zombies.
It
sounds like a really poor B grade movie and let's face it most of us
have indulged in those from time to time. However what I was greeted
with is a well crafted, fun and strategic game.
The basic
premise of the game is to protect your owner’s property with a garden
army against a variety of rabid and brain hungry zombies. Seems pretty
straight forward.
Using the Nintendo DS’s stylus you select a
group of plants prior to each invasion that will be best suited to the
conditions of the battle. For example, using sunflowers during a
nightime invasion wouldn't really be that clever would it?
Plants
V Zombines is not an all out attack kind of a game. It's all about
strategy and being smart about what plants to use and where to place
them.
As the game progresses the zombie attacks become
faster and harder so stategy becomes fundamentally important.
The
Zombies are pretty crazy and vary in type. The easy Zombies take the
frontline and allow you some time to set up a decent defence. It gets
more difficult when the little undead buggers start wearing witches
hats and buckets as helmets and even begin pole vaulting over your
frontline.
Even after dominating the Zombies and putting the
creeps in their tombstones, they eventually rise from the dead...
again. So it's a good idea to dig out the tombstones when you get a
chance.
The game also allows for verbal interaction, as some
levels require the gamer to support and cheer on your plants to give
them the boost they need to overcome the onslaught.
This aspect
of the game can be fun but there were times I just wanted to play the
game without needing to yell into the little microphone.
As the
fastest selling game by PopCap, Plants Vs Zombies is proving to be a
game that has a long life span and one I will be happy to play
again and again.
Plants Vs Zombies is available across many platforms, including a
downloadable version from the Apple Store.
So
if you like a good thinking game with the comedy and horror of a B
grade movie, Plants VS Zombies is the one for you. Get it on your phone
or find it on the different platforms.
Each version has little differences that would be
worth a look into.
Now, back to tending to my garden.
