Yeeeeeeehaaaa!! Take control of three new heroes as you collect resources, construct
farms, saloons and granaries, to keep your settlers happy and
healthy. Yep, Westward 3: Gold Rush
is the third installment in this nostalgic sim/strategy series, running
along with the same 3D visual style as the last installment (Westward II: Heroes of the Frontier). Starting
out for the first time you will be given the option of three characters
to choose from, with each character having their own tale. They also
have bonus abilities such as unlocking new buildings or allowing you to
build tanneries right out of the box. The first few missions are
more of a tutorial, which is good thing for newcomers, as it teaches you the basics of gameplay step by
step. Now it can be a little frustrating for those who have played this sort of game before but for newcomers it
is very useful. Westward 3: Gold Rush is a fun game to play, with heaps of different scenarios, each divided into a series of connected quests. Each
challenge gets harder as you progress through the stages, but you you
gain new skills that help develop, build and grow your town, which
introduces heaps of new tasks like my personal favourite - battling
bandits. Your mouse is your weapon of choice, with most commands such as assigning tasks, moving villagers,
building structures etc. simply a mouse click away, although there are several keyboard
shortcuts that can make things easier. Navigating
through menu screens is simple and straightforward, so there shouldn't
be any trouble with the interface, even for newbie gamers. The involving quests
are generally stepping stones that lead to a much grander goal, which
reminded me of a little South Korean man that I once met while he was
on his death-bed who wispered in my ear "It's better to look ahead and
prepare than to look back and regret." Which is very true in this game. Everything you do is only working towards somthing much better, in
doing this Westward 3 gives a great sense of accomplishment. Game: Westward 3: Gold Rush
