Alannah Hill
By JENELLE CLEARY
Alannah
Hill's lollipop-fusion and sherbet-bomb sweet fashion has
been an unbelievable addition to the Australian fashion industry.
Alannah hails from Tasmania and moved to Melbourne after
joining the Ashton's Circus when she was 15. She then began
a stint as an apprentice hairdresser and found herself in
Chapel Street right at the time when the punk scene was prevalent.
She played a part as an extra in the cult movie Dogs in
Space, starring Michael Hutchence, and became a part-time
salesperson for the Indigo Boutique in Chapel Street. She
soon worked her way up to being offered her own label for
Indigo and then launched the Alannah Hill label in 1996.
Her designs ooze femininity with floral prints and ladylike
hues on delicate, luxurious fabrics, crochets, lace and velvet.
Accessories include flirty creations of lovely, girly hair
flowers, bracelets, brooches, and handbags. Her recent branch
into swimwear was seen at the Australian Fashion Festival.
Since her first boutique opened in 1997, she now wholesales
internationally. Her parades are always colourful, fun and
entertaining with glamorous dancers strutting their stuff.
Definitely one for the girls!
