Ana Ivanović

Ana Ivanović

With the Australian Open moving at a ferocious pace, we in the Web Wombat Fashion offices have come under an enormous amount of pressure to talk about one of the most important issues currently facing World Sport... Ana Ivanović and her level of "hotness".

Far be it from me to disagree with the swarm of drooling males in our offices... but since when did Tennis become about anything more than banging some balls back and forth?

It seems the only interest Women's tennis recieves these days is in the form of making fun of the bouncing booty of one of the Williams sisters, or the gawking at the flowing pony tails of the likes of Ana Ivanović.

Born November 6, 1987 (yep, she's a young one... making me one year older, and one year more bitter) in Belgrade, Serbia this stunning former world No. 1 Serbian tennis player has beaten the likes of Dinara Safina to win the 2008 French Open and was the runner-up in singles at the 2007 French Open and the 2008 Australian Open.

Competing as a professional since 2003, she has won 11 WTA Tour singles titles. Her taste for winning stems from the fact she started playing tennis at the age of five (after watching Monica Seles on TV), phoning her local tennis school and begging her parents to take her - which ultimately forced her parents to give her a racquet for fifth birthday.

Kids! Yeeeeesh!

When she was 15, Ivanović spent hours in the locker room crying after a defeat - the first that her new manager had ever seen. She thought that Dan Holzmann, the manager in question, would drop her, thinking that she was not good enough to become a professional tennis player.

He has stayed her manager to this day. Awwwwww.

Ivanović is known for her powerful serve. At the 2007 French Open she hit a 124.9 mph (201.0 km/h) serve, the fifth fastest serve of all time on the WTA Tour.

However, as she slowly ages, her serve has become increasingly unreliable, mostly due to "technical issues with her ball toss".

Luckily her nerves are calmed by strong family support. Ana Ivanović's mother is Dragana, a lawyer, who famously has supported her daughter during almost every single one of her matches. Her father Miroslav, a well known self-employed businessman, is also known for attending as many events as he possibly can.

However it's not simply tennis that appeals to Ivanović. She is also partial to watching movies (in particular thrillers), reading and listening to music and pigging out in front of her favourite TV shows which include 24, Lost and Prison Break.

In 2007, Ivanović became a UNICEF National Ambassador for Serbia, alongside Aleksandar Đorđević, Jelena Janković and Emir Kusturica which enables this sexy tennis stunner to take special interest in the fields of education and child protection.

She has also appeared in a song called "Hurricane Ana," produced by Serbian rapper Filip Filipi and Collie Buddz, as well as appearing on a number of international magazines including FHM (Germany, United Kingdom, Australia), Cosmopolitan (Serbia), Vanidades (Mexico), Grazia (Serbia), The Best Shop (Serbia), Sports Illustrated (South Africa) and others.

And with a face and body like that... can you really blame her?
