Caprice Bourret
By Sara Templeton
When
you hear hear her name, most would think blonde bombshell
Caprice Bourret is from France, or at least a French territory,
such as New Caledonia.
But in actual fact she is an American who spends much of
her time in England - the place that put her on the map.
While Caprice is neither a top model in the vein of Naomi
Campbell or an Oscar-winning actress like Gwyneth Paltrow,
she falls happily between these two, making the best of both
worlds.
Born on October 24, 1974, in the suburb of Hacienda Heights,
California, Caprice - as she's better known - moved from her
the USA to the UK to pursue a career in modeling.
To cut a long story short, her success wasn't immediate,
but after featuring heavily in men's non-smutty magazines
such as Esquire, Sports Illustrated ('98 Swimsuit Issue),
FHM, Maxim and GQ, Caprice's star began to rise - and rapidly.
Indicative of her success, she was voted GQ Magazine's "Woman
of the Year" and Maxim's "International Woman
of the Year" for three years running - 2000, 2001 and
2002.
While her gorgeous good looks attracted the lads, Caprice
was also a consummate performer with good timing, and it showed
when she hosted the the British National Television Awards
in 1996.
Following the Brit TV Awards, she scored the job of host
for the European MTV awards in 1997 and a succession of other
hosting duties followed, including the Monaco World Music
Awards.
After proving her skills at live big-ticket events, she worked
on several British television programs including her own travel
series called "Caprice Travels". In 1998 and 1999
she starred alongside Ian Wright in the oh-so-cleverly named
"Friday Night's All Wright".
But more recently Caprice has had a yearning for the big
screen, and starred in two independent films.
The
first, Nailing Vienna, was produced for Sky Movies,
while the second indy flick, Bubbles, was nominated
for an award at the 2002 Rushes Film Festival in London -
perhaps a hint of bigger things to come?
In 2002, Caprice decided to try her hand at theatre, and
her first effort, Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues",
landed her positive reviews in the British media.
Afte her successful foray into theatre, Caprice went on to
star in a sell out season of "Rent" at the Prince
of Wales Theatre in London.
Most recently, however, Caprice has finally hit the big time,
signing a contract to make two films.
The first, titled Hollywood Flies, also stars UK hardman
Vinnie Jones and talented American actor Brad Renfro and is
due for release this year (2004), while the second, Jinxed
in Love, will see her taking the lead role.
Like Kylie Minogue, the 5'11" tall blonde has released
her own exclusive lingerie, with the line of underwear simply
called Caprice. Her marketing people must be getting paid
squillions!
But beyond the inspired product branding, her lingerie has
been a hit in the UK, where it jumped straight onto the best
selling list at Debenhams, a large chain of department stores.
Caprice has also branched out in to swim wear, such was the
overwhelming popularity of the Caprice lingerie.
So, where to from here for the voluptuous British-American?
She's already released an album (called "Oh Yeah"),
she's done modeling, fashion design, television, theatre and
movies. Who knows - perhaps she'll do an Arnie and wade into
politics?
Stranger things have happened...
