Megan Ewing
By SARA TEMPLETON
For
many people casting their eyes across Megan Ewing's visage
for the first time, there can often be a strange sense of
recognition.
A friend of mine shed light on this theory when she once
said that the American model could have been the love child
of Liv Tyler and Aussie belle Megan Gale, to which I enlightened
her about the xx and xy chromosomes.
But it was an interesting call, and perhaps this is one of
the reasons why Megan's modeling career is so healthy, that
many people, whether consciously or not, see shades of other
elegant women in her.
Her burgeoning career is more likely due her to her positive
attitude and work ethic though, as she spent much time modeling
from the age 15, trying to study at the same time.
It is said that she once even cancelled a shoot with Vogue
magazine because she had an exam.
There's no way I'd want to be in that situation - career
versus school has and always will be a difficult issue for
aspiring models, moreso now than ever, as there is a trend
that is seeing the average age of top models tumble.
Like fellow American model Kim Smith,
Megan Ewing is a brunette and was also born in the mid 80s
in the state of Texas. To be precise, Megan was born on September
30, 1984, in the town of Abilene.
The Ewing family raised Megan and her two brothers in the
township of Brady, and from an early age she was adamant about
pursuing a career as a fashion model.
During her high school years she was very athletic and was
a highly regarded athlete on the track. Her goals appeared
to be within reach when she discovered that modeling group,
Model Search America, was looking for new talent in Texas.
After
cutting through all the red tape such as interviews and so
on, she was officially a new model and the 5'9" tall
brunette was soon signing contractual papers with Dallas modeling
agency Clipse.
Her first assignments involved travelling to places Chicago,
Florida and New York for photo shoots. She even went to Japan
while still a high schooler, much to the chagrin of her fellow
students who didn't get to go to Asia for their school holidays.
Juggling school work and a blossoming modeling career was
no easy task for Megan, and it is widely documented that the
Texan model had put in the hard yards to be where she is today
- strutting down catwalks in Milan, Paris and London.
One of her first big breaks was with Guess?, where in 2001
she was signed on to complete a number of ad campaigns (pictured
right), shooting exotic locales like Hawaii. After gaining
industry-wide recognition through these campaigns, her reputation
was given a good shot in the arm.
Before too long Megan was being bombarded with potential
job offers, and in 2002 she tried something a little different
by appearing in Lenny Kravitz "Believe in Me" music
video.
As well as doing shoots for a number of Japanese fashion
mags, the hazel-eyed model appeared on the covers of various
international editions of magazines like Elle Girl and Elle,
Vogue, PHOTO magazine, Marie Claire and the gadget-lovers
bible, Gear.
Victoria's Secret saw the Megan as an emerging top model,
and she's worked with the American lingerie giant on a number
of occasions. Megan Ewing keeps her personal life well away
from the spotlight, letting her professional endeavours prove
her worth, but it is believed she now has a young son, which
would explain her hiatus from the modeling scene in 2003.
With one of the most endearing faces the modeling world has
seen in quite some time, the naturally beautiful Texan model
is virtually ensured a long career, so don't expect Megan
Ewing to disappear anytime soon - unless she has another beautiful
baby that is!
