Kristy Hinze
By Sara Templeton & Jenelle Cleary Like
the irresistible Megan Gale, Kristy
Hinze is well on her way to becoming one of the most successful
models to come out of Australia since Elle
MacPherson.
Born in the year 1980 in Sydney, Kristy's family moved to
Queensland when she still young.
She grew up on a farm in Beaudesert, Queensland and at age
14 became the youngest model to land a contract with Australian
Vogue.
This was at odds with the family, who were obviously tied
to the land, and it's interesting to note that Kristy's grandfather,
Russ Hinze, was a minister of the farmer-friendly National
Party.
Anyway, after landing the gig with Vogue she was signed up
with Vivien's Model Management, and over the following years
she jetted around the world to fulfil her modelling assignments.
Now at age 20, she moved to New York City and this geographical
change really gave her career a boost and she was soon chosen
to appear in the 2000 Swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated.
Making a move into acting seemed a natural progression and
she was chosen to appear alongside Marc Anthony in his film
clip, You sang to me, and was been signed to a multiple
movie deal.
She also appeared in the Freddie Prinze Jr. movie Boys
and Girls in the year 2000. Her role was limited to a
fantasy dream sequence starring the now-famous Jason Biggs
of American Pie, starring along other models, including
Kylie Bax, and Ines
Rivero.
She had the world at her feet, also appearing in the Cleo
Swimsuit Edition and starring in the television special created
for the launch of that issue, while also being a guest on
the popular Australian TV show Rove Live. America's favourite lingerie label, Victoria's Secret, was
next on her agenda, where she joined such supermodel luminaries
as Laetitia Casta,
Eva Herzigova,
Karolina Kurkova,
Gisele Bündchen
and Heidi Klum.
She's also graced the pages of many glossy magazines, including
Maxim and Cosmopolitan to name just a couple.
In 2003 she was cast in The Look alongside veteran
actor Carol Alt, a film that probably appealed to her because
of her own experiences.
The indy film concerned a group of teens who come together
in New York for a modeling competition, and since then has
wrapped up filming on a movie called The Extra (2005),
written by comedian Jimeoin and also starring Rhys Muldoon,
Bob Franklin and Shaun Micallef.
Kristy Hinze has a down-to-earth attitude and together with
her easy going nature they will surely benefit her career
as she continues to be in demand right around the world. And
while she still lives in the US, she makes a point like many
other prominent local celebrities to return home to Australia
as much as possible.
