Life is pretty easy for models. They get to look beautiful 24/7,
travel to exotic locations, party like it's 1999 through to 2012 and
generally live more interesting lives than the rest of us. So, for
today at least, let's spare a thought for the poor schlubs who need to
work out how to type and say the names of these gorgeous gals! Take
for example, Irina Shayk (sometimes credited as Irina Sheik) - do we
say "Shack" or "Shaq" or "Shadyyak"? - who the hell cares, Google will
work it out and find pretty pictures of her for us! Born Irina
Shaykhlislamova (just in case the shortened version wasnt hard enough
to say) on January 6, 1986 in Yemanzhelinsk (another hard to say place
in Russia) this sexy model is best known for her 2007 - 2012
appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She is such a hot
commodity, she was named the cover model for the 2011 issue. Shayk's
mother was a pianist and kindergarten music teacher (for the record,
Irina started playing piano at age six) - her father was a coal miner
and it is believed Irina inherited her unusual but dashing looks from
her father. "My father was dark skinned, because he was Tatar.
Sometimes Tatars can look Brazilian... I get my light eyes from my
mother" she says. Shayk only has one known sibling, an older sister named Tatiana. Yeah, it's as hot as it sounds kids. After
high school, Shayk studied marketing but was bored by it (possibly due
to having to wear so many clothes) and thus entered a local beauty
school with her elder sister. It's every fifteen year old boys dreams
come true. While there, she was noticed by a person from a
local modeling agency and was subsequently urged to participate in the
"Miss Chelyabinsk 2004" beauty contest. Of course, she won. At
the age of 19, Irina is somewhat of a late bloomer in the modelling
world, she replaced Ana Beatriz Barros as the face of Intimissimi and
in the same year (2007) debuted in the annual Sports Illustrated
Swimsuit Issue. Since then, this saucy minx has appeared in every
annual edition, attending photoshoots in such places as St. Petersburg,
Naples, Grenada and Chile. Shayk was made the official
ambassador for Intimissimi in 2010, which led to numerous other
modeling contracts which included Beach Bunny, Victoria's Secret,
Lacoste, Cesare Paciotti and Guess in the Spring of 2009. The
offers didn't stop there either - Shayk modeled the Armani Exchange
2010 campaign, starred in Kanye West's "Power" video clip and was even
on the cover of Ocean Drive and GQ South Africa for the August issue -
all of which led to her being ranked first in the "50 Hottest Russian
Women" list by Complex magazine. If we had our way, she would be #1, #8 and #17. It's
not all about boobs and butts, Shayk made a small change from swimwear
to high fashion thanks to a spread in Spain's Harper’s Bazaar, which in
turn landed her the cover of Elle Spain for their November 2010 issue. On
February 14, 2011 (when it was revealed via billboard that Shayk was
the covermodel for the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue) it
officially made her the first Russian to appear on the cover - and as
of this very second she is currently ranked 10th in the "Top 20 Sexiest
Models" list on Models.com. Luckily the internet doesn't last forever, so I won't ever have to update that last sentence... waaaaait a minute! And
just in case you are thinking Shayk does it all for the fame and money
- just remember that she is also helping a maternity hospital in her
hometown of Yemanzhelinsk where she and her sister helped rebuild the
children's ward of the local hospital. So don't you feel like a bit of
a cynical assbandit now! Oh yeah... she is dating footballer
Cristiano Ronaldo - so... it's not all building hospitals and helping
the sick. The gal needs some downtime too!
