Twilight is back, and bigger than ever, with Twilight : Eclipse the latest to sweep the teen market like a Justin Biebar sized storm.
Look, to be honest, I've never really understood the 'Emo' or
emotional movement. Goths I get, but Emos appear to be a slightly more
mainstream culture that blends indie rockers and
the searching-for-an-identity types. Though I don't understand the motivations of the everyday Emo kid, I do know what I like. And me likey Robert Pattinson! This guy is going to be a star. Well, he already is. I've just seen the new Twilight movie, where he plays the vampiric lead, and this boy's got charm. But
before I gush too much, let's step back through the sands of time and
take a look at where it all began for the undeniably attractive Emo kid (really, how hard can it be to get a sun tan?). Born on the 13th of May in 1986 (yes he's a Taurus) in
London, England, Mr Pattinson used to dress a girl. I'm not sure if
that's an Emo thing or not, but here are the words from his mouth: "Up until I was 12 my sisters used to dress me up as a girl and
introduce me as 'Claudia'! Twelve was a turning point as I moved to a
mixed school and then I became cool and discovered hair gel." Ah,
the hair gel. His messy hair is now a trademark which has the ability
to single-handedly make teenaged girls swoon before they even gaze into
hispassionate stormy-ocean blue eyes... Much like myself, Robert's school life was spent fairly lazily. Robert recalls: "I wasn't at all focused on school, and I didn't achieve much. But I've
got a sense of urgency now. I feel I can't let any more time waste away." After
working backstage at the Barnes Theatre Company, he decided to
audition for a less utilitarian job and at age 15 he started acting in
productions. He also dabbled in modelling, which can't have been hindered by his mother, Clare, who worked for a modelling agency. His big break came in 2003 when Robert Pattinson took on the role of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire which was released in 2005. From here the savvy Englishmen landed some TV roles including the 2006 production telemovie called The Haunted Airman, but his breakout role was, without question, the 2008 vampire flick Twilight. During an audition process that involved some 3000 prospective actors
all wanting to land the lead role of Edward Cullen, he managed to beat
them all and score the role, much to the delight of lustful teens the
world over. The
films have been panned by critics (even our own) but have been
outragous box office smash hits, earning Robert a newfound respect
amongst Hollywood's
rapacious film makers. Based on the vampire novels by Stephenie Meyer of the same name, the Twilight films havr cast the UK's newest hunk, standing more than 6-feet tall, in a newer, darker role and the result is amazing. The lingering stares, the unbridled passion, that chiselled jaw line... All I can say is that I don't normally get this caught up in dodgy mainstream movies, but Rob Pattinson's on-screen presence in Twilight is mesmerising. From
here Robbo can only go higher, and with trashy tabloid accolades such
as Rolling Stone Magazine's Hottest Actor of 2008 and Entertainment Tonight's (ET) top hunk of 2010, he's not likely to disappear into a haze of anonymity anytime soon. Robert Pattinson also landed the role of Salvadore Dali in the 2009 film Little Ashes, of which he comments: "Playing Dali has been a complete turning point for me. It's the first
part I've had that has required really serious thought. "I became
completely obsessed with Dali during the filming, and I read every
biography I could get a hold of. He was the most bizarre, complex man,
but in the end I felt I could relate to him. He was basically
incredibly shy," said Pattinson. Smart and sexy? Emo is the new sexy! Currently
living in Los Angeles, the ultra-sexy Londoner is an excellent musician
who can play piano better than Deltra Goodrem, and also dabbles in
guitar. He even composed some of the music for the Twilight films.
Swoon... He also has two sisters, a pet elephant, and several tarantulas. Or so say several highly unreliable sources. Is Robert Pattinson the new Jude Law? No, he's much more attractive than Jude, and perhaps more talented too. Final words: HEH: Hot Emo Hunk.
