Ruby Rose By Ines Mendoza Ruby Rose
| You really have to love a good ol'
fashioned celebrity who is more famous for being themselves than for
any of their actual achievements. Sure - Ruby Rose... rose... to
fame on MTV Australia - but name me one other MTV Australia VJ? What?
Can't think of any besides "that Irish Guy"?
Why - it's because no one else at the network got bu-zzzay with one of the Veronicas.
Ruby
Rose Langenheim was born on March 20 of 1986, but has since
become better known Aussies simply as Ruby Rose "Australian model
and MTV VJ".
Born to a twenty year old single mother, Rose
travelled frequently as a young child - living across this great big
brown land in rural Victoria, Tasmania, Surfers Paradise before finally
landing in Melbourne.
Despite "coming out as a lesbian" at the age of twelve, Rose first gained fame by joining the
Girlfriend model search in 2002 (which also found fame for Miranda
Kerr), in which she came in second to Catherine McNeil.
Much like Australian Idols James Mathison and Channel [V]'s Yumi Stines, Rose competed against 2000
other hopefuls in a three-week national search to become the new MTV VJ.
The job, of course, was to take over from Lyndsey
Rodrigues who moved to the United States to co host TRL, a job which Rodrigues lost mere months later.
Ruby downed 100 shots of beer in 100 minutes against
Jackass' Bam Margera, and kissed strangers on a busy Sydney street.
But
as is the case with most in the industry... they are never quite happy
with having the most enviable jobs in the world. Recently, Rose
suggested she dislike her role as a DJ, but not as much as being a
model.
"Being a model there
is always something they want to change. Whether they want someone a
little bit skinnier, a little bit taller, a little bit prettier, but
MTV want you to be yourself... not censoring anything and not
conforming to anything".
How
our hearts bleed - I'm sure those folks working 18 hour days in the
mines have as equally hard time and are holding vigils for Roses'
"tough gig".
In 2009, Ruby Rose took home the Favourite Female
Personality at the ASTRA Awards, which led to an immediate increase in
the thirst for "more Rose". She has most recently appeared on Rove and the smash hit Australian quiz show Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation and most recently taken on the role of High School Musical host on Foxtel.
In 2008, she was chosen as one of the "25 Most Influential
Gay and Lesbian Australians" by an Australian online gay and
lesbian community.
She
is a star on the rise with the world on her feet - and everyone in the
Wombat offices will be watching her with baited breath to see where
this stunningly attractive beauty heads to next! | Ruby Rose |
