Sofía Vergara

Sofía Vergara

Sofía Vergara

To most of the western world, she is simply known as "the tits from Modern Family", yet Sofía Margarita Vergara is much more than something to attatch some fleshy orbs of joy.

Born July 10, 1972 this Colombian actress, television hostess, model, and entrepreneur has made many inroads into showbusiness over the years.

While she is probably best known for her role in Modern Family, Vergara had a burstying career as far back as the 1990s as a co-host of two TV shows for Univisión in the late 1990s.

Her TV career opened up plenty of doors for the busty beauty in North American audiences including her first acting job in English, the 2003 film Chasing Papi and two Tyler Perry films (Meet the Browns in 2008) and 2009s Madea Goes to Jail).

Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, Vergara's mother made a life as a homemaker while her father produced cattle for the meat industry, while her older brother was murdered in 1998 leading to her wanting to leave Columbia.

Humble beginnings for one of Hollywood's hottest stars, don't you think?

Vergara has said of her move into acting that she was "apprehensive about doing her first television commercial - until her Catholic school teachers gave her their personal permission to take the assignment".

That commercial was when she was she was just seventeen, a Pepsi commercial,  that was widely broadcast in Latin America.

From there she worked as a runway model and on television. From 1995 to 1998, she was co-host with Fernando Fiore on Fuera de serie ("Out of the Ordinary" or "Over-the-Top"), a travel series that sent her to exotic places around the world. It was telecast on the international Univisión Spanish-language television network, and it made her a star in the Latin American market.

It also gave Vergara television exposure in the United States via the Univisión stations there. She co-hosted the Univisión show A que no te atreves ("I Dare You")

Aside from being a downright sex kitten, Vergara also studied pre-dentistry at a university in Colombia for three years. But it wasn't long until opportunities popped up to work in modeling and in show biz, forcing Vergara to head to Latin America leaving two semesters early of graduating from dental school.

Geez, I bet there are a whole lot of ugly Englishmen upset they will never get to visit that dentist office!

In 2008, Vergara was 62 on Maxim magazine's "Hot 100" list. She was named one of People magazine's "50 most beautiful people" and has been recognised by both the Hollywood Reporter and Billboard as one of the most influential Latinas in Hollywood.

In July 2011, she finished filming for the Farrelly Brothers' The Three Stooges, her first lead role in a film. Vergara said of the risky reboot, "I play a mean woman that tries to manipulate the Three Stooges into killing her husband so that she gets all the money". Then she giggled and made a pouty face.

In the same year, Vergara also was named as the new face of CoverGirl, debuted in a Diet Pepsi commercial with David Beckham and announced that she is designing a clothing line for K-Mart targeting "Soccer Moms". In anyones book, that's a pretty big year - and it isn't slowing down any time soon.

So get your eyes ready boys... it's only a matter of time until she does a 3D movie. Then... well, let your imagination do the rest!
