Alyssa Sutherland
By SARA TEMPLETON
Since
the heady days when Elle McPherson was a household name, few
Australian top models have attracted as much attention on
both a national and international level, though names such
as Megan Gale and Kristy Hinze do spring to mind.
Statuesque Alyssa Sutherland, standing 6' 0" tall, could
be on her way to world-wide recognition a la Elle, following
an impressive start to her career in the fashion industry.
Being 6-feet tall is one thing, but being able to elegantly
and gracefully carry yourself - and with confidence - is another
challenge, but Alyssa makes it look all too easy, having strutted
her stuff on catwalks from Melbourne to Milan.
Born in 1982, Alyssa became interested in modeling after
she was allegedly picked from a crowd of hundreds to enter
the Girlfriend Bonne Bell model competition. Long story short,
she won the competition as a teen, which helped lay the foundations
for her future career.
In more recent times, Australian-born Alyssa Sutherland has
graced runways all over the world for big-gun design houses
such as Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Moschino and Giorgio Armani.
She's also appeared in numerous glossy magazines, such as
Cleo, and has participated in a number of print-based ad campaigns.
Alyssa was welcomed home with open arms at the 2003 Melbourne
Fashion Festival, where she was named Face of the Festival,
and has starred in more than a few movies in her time too,
including Hugo Pool (1997), Below Utopia (1997),
Deadly Sins (1995), The Outer Limits (1995)
and Poison Ivy II (1995).
As a widely-recognised model, Alyssa Sutherland is still
young and, with her unique look, and long (but well-proportioned)
figure, is likely to go far in the dazzling fashion world.
Will she be the next Elle? We'll keep a close eye on her progression
through the industry. Perhaps what they say is true: only
time will tell...
