Good Catholic Girl Teresa Riesling 2012 & Vionta Albarino from Spain
Good Catholic Girl Teresa Riesling 2012
We failed to see a Riesling under Julie Barry's charmingly-named label Good
Catholic Girl in 2011, but that years vintage in South Australia's Clare could
be described as basically lousy, what with above-average rainfall and high
humidity-driven followed the diseases accompanying it.
But in 2012 Julie has certainly recaptured lost ground with the Good Catholic
Girl Teresa Riesling that, distinct from some vintages of the past, she's
created totally from fruit from the extolled vineyards of Barry Marsson high
over Watervale, instead of combining grapes from a variety of vineyards.
This year's drop explodes in the glass with a blast of passionfruit, lychee,
apricot, apple, yellow peach and lime fragrances, and has a
standout taste of apple, tropical fruit and citrus flavours. If you are an exemplarory
Catholic boy or Catholic boy (or maybe not) weigh up buying a few bottles now
for a festive Christmas - it's an perfect wine with party-room oysters and
seafood's.
But be warned: Julie has only produced 200 cases at $25 a bottle, so beat the
rush and get in early and place your order online via email to enquiry@goodcatholicgirl.com.au
or put a call into Julie on 0419 822 909. Freight charges do apply for this charming drop,
whose distinctive label is valuable on its own to start the discourse.
Luncheon Flavour:
Albarino is a popular white variety that originally comes from the Galicia
region of Spain's Atlantic coast, it is identified by distinctive citrus and dry
stone-fruit tones and a mineral after glow.
You can purchase a Vionta label Albarino in Australia now and it sells for $25.
It is an ideal wine to drink with seafood: in its country of origin it is often imbibed
with roasted salted cod infused in milk. In the USA it's quickly gaining
popularity and is partnered with Maine lobster rolls. You can drink it in that combination
or combine it with mouth-watering grilled green-lipped mussels topped with parsley butter.
